Leather Corals are a popular choice for both beginner and experienced reef keepers due to their hardiness and unique appearance. These soft corals feature large, leathery, textured polyps that sway gently with the current, creating a beautiful, natural movement in your aquarium. Leather Corals come in various colors, including tan, green, and brown, with some species exhibiting striking hues of yellow, blue, and purple. Their flexible texture and unique shape add an interesting contrast to stony or branching corals in the reef environment.

Leather Corals are relatively easy to care for, requiring low to high lighting and medium water flow. If you do decide to keep Leather Corals in high lighting it is always a good idea to gradually acclimate them to the more intense lighting over a 1-2 week period. They can tolerate a wide range of conditions, but should be placed in areas of the aquarium with good water circulation to ensure their polyps remain fully extended.

Though peaceful in temperament, Leather Corals can produce a protective chemical slime that may deter other corals from growing nearby. Be sure to provide enough space for them to expand and avoid placing them too close to more sensitive species.
